Iola Roberts Library Media Center Student Guidelines Welcome to a new year at Iola Roberts! We are looking forward to an exciting year helping students in the Library/Media Center and I wanted to take a minute to explain some of our procedures. I am very excited to be inside our school building this year! We are located downstairs in room 10! We also love our new Library Software Atriuum. This program allows you & your child to search our library books from any computer that has the internet! Just go to our school website http://www.iolaroberts.net and click on the green Library icon on the right hand side of our webpage. Choose our school Iola Roberts from the list & you can search for books in our school library or check to see what books your child has out. To search for books, just type in the title, keyword, or author's name and click search. To see what books your child has checked out, click on "My Items", type in your child's lunch number for both boxes, then click login. You can also view our Accelerated Reading List by clicking on forms from the Library Webpage and clicking on download to view the AR list by title or reading level. Many important things are listed on our school website! Your classroom teacher has information about their class, upcoming events at our school, & menu's are featured as well. Our library has a collection of books, videos, magazines, and other materials. The library has more than 10,000 titles available for check-out. We currently have 7,916 Accelerated Reading test available to students. At Iola Library, the classroom teachers will bring their students to the library as a class once every two weeks, but students can visit the Library from 10:15 -2:40 every day with a pass from the classroom teacher. They can check out two books at a time and keep them out for up to 14 days. Magazines are also available for checkout during the school day, but are due back in the Library before the end of the school day. We do not charge any fines at Iola Library, be we will not allow students to check out any more material from the Library until the overdue book is found and rechecked or returned. If a lost book can not be found, we will ask the student to pay the cost of the book so we can replace it for our school. We understand that when we are working with young children items will be misplaced occasionally and we expect that, but we encourage the students to do their best to keep their library books in their bookbags at school and at home except when they are reading them. We hope this will cut down with students mixing up their books & losing them at home or at school. Iola Roberts participates in the Accelerated Reader Program. With this program students choose books from the Library on their independent reading level (identified by their teacher) and take comprehension tests on the books on computers in their classrooms. The computer then prints out the test results for the teacher and the parents to view. AR reading levels are identified by different color dots on the call number of the library books. We encourage students to select books on their independent reading level to take AR tests on and books to read for enjoyment. To view our Library Policy and Procedures Manual, click on forms from the Library webpage and upload. Thanks for all of your help with our school and our children! I look forward to working with all of you and your children this year and every year of their K-4 school career. This is going to be fun! Thank You, Tammy Mitchell Library Media Specialist
